Microsoft Supports 'Empower' Project
Building on its commitment to drive socio-economic growth in Kuwait and develop knowledge based society; Microsoft Company supported the second phase of the 'Empower' program by presenting a grant cheque to the Kuwait Economic Society (KES) along with valuable software donation. Ramez Dandan, Country Manager, Microsoft Kuwait presented the cheque to Dr. Rola Abdullah Dashti, Chairperson of the Kuwait Economic Society. The 'Empower' project provides Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training to Kuwaitis, to enhance their computer skills and improve employment opportunities.

Project Empower is part of Microsoft's Unlimited Potential (UP) programme, a global initiative that focuses on improving lifelong learning and providing technical skills training to underserved individuals through Community Technology and Learning Centers (CTLCs). Kuwait Economic Society (KES) currently runs the program in eight centers located across Kuwait with over 424 graduates till date. Additionally, more new centers are to open next year. The centers use the Microsoft Unlimited Potential curriculum which is an easy and efficient set of ICT based learning tools that have been developed by Microsoft and its partners.
Ramez Dandan Country Manager, Microsoft Kuwait, said, "A long time proponent of blending technology and education, this initiative is part of Microsoft's efforts to contribute to the knowledge economy of the Middle East. Microsoft believes that the skills and training that student’s gain through the 'Empower' curriculum can help them get jobs, increase their earning power and advance their education so they can help contribute to national competitiveness. Ultimately, Microsoft is helping bridge the global technological gap by providing the training and tools people need to realize their potential".
Dr Rola Abdullah Dashti, Chairperson of the Kuwait Economic Society said, "This initiative is an essential investment in Kuwait's future. Putting technology to work for people throughout the country will enable us to strengthen our economy and create greater opportunity for young people to fulfil their dreams. The program also seeks to empower women by imparting technical knowledge with demand-driven skills, giving women a competitive edge in the job market. We value Microsoft's support as we take positive steps towards promoting economic growth and reform within our economy.
The Kuwait Economic Society is currently in talks with the Government of Kuwait to explore the possibility of implementing the program as a National initiative. KES is also bringing in the support of several of its partners to provide post graduation support to students of project Empower by assisting them with job search and placements.
