Kuwait Economic Society (KES) announced the graduation of 500 trainees from the Empower Project as of March 2009.
Rola Dashti, Chairperson of KES said that the Empower project goals go along with the vision and mission of KES in IT awareness which will results in human and community development. Also, the Empower project is a great example of partnership between civil society, private sector and government. Dashti, added the award of H.H. Shaikh Salem Ali Alsabah informatics and Microsoft played a vital role in the development of the project.
Ehab Mostafa Country Manager, Microsoft Kuwait, said, “This initiative is part of Microsoft’s efforts to contribute to the knowledge economy in Kuwait. We believe that the skills and training that individuals gain through the ‘Empower’ curriculum can help them get jobs, increase their earning power and advance their education so they can help contribute to national competitiveness. Ultimately, Microsoft is helping bridge the global technological gap by providing the training and tools people need to realize their potential".
Maali Alasousi, Empower Manager, said KES currently runs the program in eight centers located across Kuwait with over 500 graduates till date. Empower team target segment consists of individuals who fall under the middle to lower middle class from the local community in Kuwait and as of now 300 females and 200 males graduated from the project.
Project “Empower” which started at KES on 2007 is part of Microsoft's Unlimited Potential (UP) programme, a global initiative that focuses on improving lifelong learning and providing technical skills training to underserved individuals through Community Technology and Learning Centers (CTLCs). The centers use the Microsoft Unlimited Potential curriculum which is an easy and efficient set of ICT based learning tools that have been developed by Microsoft and its partners. Building on its commitment to drive socio-economic growth in Kuwait and develop knowledge based society, Microsoft has contributed to The ‘Empower’ program to enhance Kuwaiti’s computer skills and improve employment opportunities.
