KUWAIT CITY, April 26: The Executive Committee of the Business and Professional Women Kuwait (BPWK), which has been set up under the umbrella of the Kuwait Economic Society (KES) held the first ever event of its kind April 26, at the KES premises in Shuwaikh. The event was chaired by Dr Rola Dashti and attended by chief guests President of Business and Professional Women International Ms Liz Benham, USA, and the First Vice-President Ms Gabriella Canonica, USA. “The Business and Professional Women (BPW) is being hosted in 90 countries with some countries boasting hundreds of clubs and societies.
“The BPW associates today with KES in a partnership that is aimed at engaging women in the economic process especially with the low rate of Kuwaiti women in the business force,” stated Dr Rola Dashti, Chairperson of KES.
“With this association,” she added, “we hope to build in women networking and capacity building in the Gulf region and the world.”
Dr Liz Benham spoke more deeply about the BPW as an expanding international non-profit organization in support of all working, business and professional women.
“I’ am the 21st president since the BPW was formed in 1930 and the 4th US president of the society. Our mission is to encompass women from all over the world and by that encompass their cultures, experience and thoughts, stated Dr Liz. “Today,” she disclosed, “we exist in 90 countries in five different regions and we have 30,000 female members from around the world.”
BPW is a leading women network in the 21st century, with finance from its members and sponsors, good governance and legacy of women around the world who are developing through mentoring, networking, and projects initiation.
BPW also has an international executive board that governs the BPW societies and clubs in the 90 countries around the 5 regions of the world. BPW has established committees in support of women all over the world and its members are heavily engaged in the United Nations on all issues pertaining to women.
The latest BPW campaign involved saying no to violence against women and another campaign on equal pay which is currently launched in the USA. The aim is simply to empower women worldwide.
